DIY Fall Rustic Sign

I had some leftover hardboard from my Farmer's Market Sign, so I made this fall rustic sign for my mantel.

Click here to see my inspiration piece that I used.

Here is what I started with.
The hardboard was from Home Depot and was primed with a white primer spray paint.
The letters were cut using card stock from my Silhouette Cameo using the following fonts:
Pumpkins = Falling Skies Font
Apples = Autumn Font
Hayrides = Merveille Font
They are all free and you can click on the links to take you to them.
I used a sharp pencil and traced the letters on the board.

Here are the paint colors that I used.

Napthol Crimson
Canyon Orange
Yellow Ochre

To distress my sign, I used a dry brush technique with a clean brush and the paint color Rich Espresso.

I also used a woodgrain stamp and gathered twigs Distress Ink.

Here is the sign after I dry brushed on the paint and added the stamp.

I used celery green for the arrow.

After I painted the outlined letters, I used a small brush and my rich espresso paint and outlined the letters.

I used my finger to add on more paint in the corners and letters to give it a more distressed look.

My DIY fall rustic sign sits on my fall mantel and I love it.

It's not perfect looking but I like the technique and look for my home decor.

Stay tuned for my fall home tour.

Thank you for looking and see you on the next post.

Hugs, Shelly
